Hello!

I'm planning "Security Software & Tools Top 10" as my article for the January 1st, 2009 issue and would like to have some input from you, Dear Reader. I need to know, what is your favorite security tool or program?

The DCT Contest Thread has generated lots of replies about favorite anti-virus programs and I'm going to tally those up, so I *don't* need any answers about AV software. What I'm looking for is things like anti-spam, anti-spyware, browser add-ons, toolbars, etc. Both programs and websites qualify as security tools; for example, the Shadowserver Foundation website[/url:2b8tyr5c] is a useful security research tool that I use all the time.ThreatFire[/url:2b8tyr5c], as recommended by our own Jim Hillier, is an example of a great security program. You get the idea. As long as it's related to security, something you use on a regular basis, please let me and your fellow forum readers know about it by posting a reply here.

I already know what #1 is (in my opinion) and have a pretty good feel for #2, but I have about 20 other items on my list of considerations. I'd like to see how many of those are in regular use by DCT readers and forum members.

the best security mechanism i've found on any computer is the power button.

turn it off and no more viruses.

I use noscript on firefox, ethereal, and prefer hardware firewalls to software firewalls. when I'm forced to use a software firewall, i use Windows built in firewall.

Spybot for anti-spyware too.
