Recently, one of my 4 port routers died and I am not sure what replacement I should buy.
This is my current setup: From my ISP's gateway, I ran two CAT5e cables connecting one to each router. (Currently I have a working D-Link DIR-825).
My question is, should I purchase a new 8 port router and use just one CAT5e cable, or get another 4 port router?
Not sure which way would be best for the network speed and congestion.
When looking at either a 4 or 8 port unit, what specs should I be looking for?
I do not play online games.
I am connecting:
3 desktops
2 laptops - sometimes wireless
1 security DVR
1 Television
Hope I supplied enough info without confusing it more.
Thanks
Steve
For simplicity I would just buy one router with sufficient connections for all the required devices. Each device adds a bit of latency so you might even see a perceived performance increase when communicating with devices that were previously on separate routers.
Something as simple as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704070 would work wonderfully.
