Firefox fans can relax – Mozilla and Google sign new deal

As previously intimated here at DCT, Mozilla and Google have now agreed to terms and a new search agreement has been duly signed. Mozilla CEO Gary Kovacs confirmed the signing of a new three year deal in a recent announcement – “Under this multi-year agreement, Google Search will continue to be the default search provider for hundreds of millions of Firefox users around the world.

The existing agreement expired last November and the delay had many pundits speculating about Firefox’s possible demise. This new deal, spanning the next 3 years, more or less guarantees Firefox’s survival – at least in the short term.

Now all Mozilla needs do is improve its browser’s performance levels so Firefox compares favorably with its competitors. Don’t know about you guys but I am experiencing really severe lags with Firefox 8. Not with all sites, mostly when connecting to forums and multi-page sites, certainly enough to be a right pain in the you know what. Seems to be mostly associated with the loading of thumbnails, navigation panels and/or menu items. I’ve tried connecting to the same sites using Chrome, or more accurately SRWare Iron which is a Chrome derivative, and experienced no such problems whatsoever. There are so many reports of various issues with each new version of Firefox, is it any wonder more and more people are switching to Chrome – come on Mozilla, isn’t it  about time you got it right!

  1. Great post Jim, this is my kind of news. I’m really very excited to be reading about it here first. I’ll be sure to spread the word, and the source!

    1. Yep, saw that MB. Went straight to the FF menu but couldn’t find any option for manual update. I don’t like to update via separate download so I’m waiting patiently for FF auto update to kick in. 🙂

  2. Hi Jim
Other than ff what browser do you suggest and feel can meet our expectations or most expectations other than google? How do you feel bout Opera? If you can give us your views on the browser best aside from ff, which I like most, but with these issues with google have me worried they may cave in and merge with google so I’d like to know if there are other browsers out there having nothing with google.
thanks for your input, well appreciated…
