Download Facebook Videos With “Video Downloader For Facebook”

There is an extension that makes it very easy to download videos from Facebook. This one seems to be only available for Chrome-based browsers. Before you can use it in Opera, you need to install an extension called Install Chrome Extensions.

In Opera, go here: https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/install-chrome-extensions/

With Opera, you have to jump through a few more hoops when you install extensions from “unknown sources”. You’ll get a message telling you to go to the extension manager to confirm. You should get a similar message across the top of the browser with a button labeled Go to Extensions.

In the extension manager, click on Install then Yes, install.

Then you should get a confirmation message.

Now go here to install the extension called Video Downloader For Facebook:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/video-downloader-for-face/pfnmibjifkhhblmdmaocfohebdpfppkf?hl=en

You’ll have to jump through the same hoops in Opera. For Chrome, Vivaldi, and Brave just click on the add to button and accept any prompts.

Once the extension is installed, find a video on Facebook and you should see a blue Download button. Move the mouse over the video. If you don’t see the download button, just click on it, name and save it.

Anybody got a good add-on to download Facebook videos in Firefox? Do us a favour and list it in the comments.

UPDATE: 22nd December

PLEASE NOTE: Video Downloader For Facebook has recently been identified by the Avast security company as a malicious browser extension and has subsequently been taken down:

  1. This is what I received when trying to visit your friends website.

    Security Warning

Thank you for that info. I’m trying to figure out what’s going on. My site has been marked as potentially harmful for phishing. I can assure you I’m doing nothing of that kind. Strange thing is at WOT there are no reviews or ratings for my site so I don’t understand how they could mark it as harmful. I will get to the bottom of this.

update: WOT apparently marks entire blocks of IP addresses bad if there is one bad apple in the bunch. I’m still trying to get it cleared out through WOT.

  2. Is this extension still around? That link doesn’t go anywhere. Poked around for one that matched the graphic.

      1. Yikes! Thanks Jim, I was wondering if it might be something like that.
        Any recommendations?

It’s come to light that this extension may be malicious. It’s already been removed from the Chrome Webstore. So if you have it installed either remove or use it at your own risk. After the Christmas madness ends I’m going to look for a suitable alternative. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Stay tuned.
