Every storage device has a finite lifespan – unfortunately – and the common hard drive and SSD are no exception to this rule. Fortunately for us both devices can be monitored for signs of failure using S.M.A.R.T. (Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) and everyone should have a tool to do so in their virtual tech toolbox. Hard Disk Sentinel is one of those tools.

HDSentinel’s software monitors the S.M.A.R.T. data, temperature, and performance of your drives and presents it in an easy to understand manor visually, or by email. Hard Disk Sentinel Professional also allows the user to run seek, surface, and extended tests on drives and, should conditions indicate a failing drive , perform an emergency backup of critical files! You can use Hard Drive Sentinel to find out the present condition of a drive in real time, or to monitor drive(s) over time which allows you to see drive conditions trends before a failure causes loss of data.

Hard Disk Sentinel (HDSentinel) is a multi-OS SSD and HDD monitoring and analysis software. Its goal is to find, test, diagnose and repair hard disk drive problems, report and display SSD and HDD health, performance degradations and failures. Hard Disk Sentinel gives complete textual description, tips and displays/reports the most comprehensive information about the hard disks and solid state disks inside the computer and in external enclosures.

Hard Disk Sentinel Professional

When you open Hard Disk Sentinel Professional you will see the main window, which will present an overview of all the drives installed on your computer along with temperature and health ratings from drives which provide that information. .

Clicking the Temperature tab will show temperature details for whichever drive you select in the left column. You can also set thresholds from here that will trigger notifications or perform other actions chosen by you.

The following tab shows the raw S.M.A.R.T. data from the drive selected in the left column and allows you to ignore or adjust how the program uses the data.

The information tab shows detailed information about the selected drive including controller, model, size, and much more!

The Logs tab shows any problems logged since the program was installed. Luckily everything looks good on my computer!

The Disk Performance tab allows you to see Read and Write performance of the selected drive.

Finally the Alerts tab shows any alerts for the selected drive the program has read that could be cause for alarm.

This is just a small sample of Hard Disk Sentinel’s features. In addition to the above it can conduct thorough self testing of drives, surface tests, seek time tests, emergency backup of critical files, and much much more! Hard Disk Sentinel Professional is suitable for both the common home user and serious computer tech. Easy to use. Easy to understand. What more can you ask of a tool that everyone should have in the tech toolbox?

  1. Hello DCT thanks for the awesome HD Sentinel Pro giveaway, I had a hardware failure of my PC in the past due which I lost some data if only I had HD sentinel at that time I could have surely done something about it and got a backup. With HD Sentinel I believe I can monitor my HDD health signs and act on it before a disaster strikes on the system. Also I strongly feel a tool like HD Sentinel is a must on all systems to check signs for incoming failures and crashes due HDD.

    Best Regards

  2. I installed a promotional version of the SE. The curious and would like to have the full version.
Please count me in. Thanks 🙂

I have been using Hard Drive Sentinel Standard and love the information that the software provides. On the other hand, HD Sentinel Standard reports that one of my older IDE drives had 18 days of life, that has been over a month ago. Even after re-testing the drive it still reports 18 days left so I made sure to back up my data on the aging drive.

    Thanks for listening, or not…
and a Happy Independence Day All…

  4. HD Sentinel is by far the most powerful HD failure prediction software on the market.
    Count me in! };-D

I, Like you Dave and Jim Hillier started my life in computing at the start of the home computer era in 1980 here across the pond in the UK and came through the Amiga era and on to PC’s with windows v2 and onwards through to windows 7.
During my time I have had a great number of hard drives to salvage and I know that HD Sentinel is as much a necessity these days as a word processor is to an Author. I have used the standard edition of HD Sentinel for some time now and still recommend it to others, but I would love to be able to win a license for the pro edition so please add me to the list of competitors. Thanks for the very good review and good luck to all who enter the competition.

  6. I have been using other Hard disk monitoring software on my laptop and Desktop computers but Hard Disk Sentinel looks better software.

  7. Dick Yalmokas

I would like to win this because of positive comments I’ve seen about Hard Disk Sentinel on Windows Secrets.

  8. As a retired educator, I live on a fixed income in Texas. I am looking for outstanding programs which are free or extremely low priced. In the past 20 years, I have built and configured computers for friends and sold many. I try and test new utilities all the time. I am a self taught tech. Several months ago I downloaded a trial copy of Hard Drive Sentinal Standard and was very impressed with the amount of information the program gathered to help someone evaluate their hard drives. I have been using a 7200rpm Seagate Barracuda 1.5 GB drive which is out of warranty as an auxillary drive for storage of downloads, backups, personal videos and movies. I tried a new free program which indicated it was running hot, but it just didn’t give me much info or depth in reporting of information. Currently, I just have unplugged this SATA drive in my computer until I find a free program that gives me as much info as Hard Disk Sentinel, or hopefully, I can win a free professional license of Hard Disk Sentinel, better yet a family license where I could put it on a flash drive to check the other computers in my home, such as my wife’s, and my mother who lives withus.
    Thanks for your consideration.

  9. I had a nightmare, when after two consecutive power outage my PC refused to boot. I was angry, angry at myself that I did not make backup. All my photos and music have disappeared for a bit of second. Four nights and nights I spent trying to bring back pictures and music, nothing else did not matter. After the hard work was worth. I managed to retrieve the entire contents of hard disk: OS, installed programs, all documents and installations. Then I bought an external HD and then right back up. As hard drives have a limited life and are susceptible to impairment, it is important to have programs such as Hard Disk Sentinel, which may in time to warn of damage to or closing to the end of life hard disk.
Hard Disk Sentinel doing much more and I would like to have this powerfull tool.

  10. Love the diagnostic feature of this sentinel suite and its ability to give a pictorial detailed representation. Real nice & helpful.

  11. When I hear my hdd making clunky noises I’ll be sure to invoke HDD Sentinel to see what it detects.
    Thanks for your offer, Dave.
    Dan

  12. Très bon produit que ce HDD sentinel !
Le rapport quotidien en HTML est un plus.

  13. Thanks for the competition. I’m using the Standard version of Hard Disk Sentinel, loving the features the software has to offer. A must have even for novice users. One critic though, I’ve noticed that when you switch between Administrator profile and User(s) profile, the software states unregistered for User(s) profile however, is registered for Administraror/owner profile. I hope to win a Pro copy so, fingers and toes crossed.

  14. Sounds like I will have to try according to the other comments
    Thanks Dave

  15. Have had a hard disk fail before. Need to replace it. No idea what went wrong. Maybe wear and tear over time.
A software like Hard Disk Sentinel may not prevent wear and tear. But at least can warn of impending failure.
So that previous data can be copied in time elsewhere.

  16. I have been using the “standard” edition for about 2 weeks now, and it has saved me by telling me that 1 disk is running too hot, and that another disk has a “low” health warning. The enabled me to replace the drives before they died rather than having to scramble to take care of probelms after they died.

    Eric

  17. Thanks Dave for this Giveaway.
HDD Sentinel so far run and do its job excellent.
Could you count me in please?
    God bless u, bye

  18. Karel de Klerk
