What do you do as an alternative when you have just had enough of technology and need a little break?
Technology is wonderful and is what I do for a living, but sometimes when I am stressed out and had enough I go to my happy place. That happy place does not involve electricity. It is a bit nostalgic, old school, and reminds me of an activity that I thoroughly enjoyed as a child.
I have a secret something I enjoy doing that I do not share with just everyone. I am sharing it with you though, so feel somewhat honored as I am a very private person. Please refrain from any snide remarks or telling me to grow up and act my age.
Are you ready?
I am one of the many adults that enjoys coloring. Yes, you heard me right. I love to color and am telling you now and will share this article if it passes review with all my friends on Social Media. I find it not only relaxing but I can delve into my creative, artistic side. Many local businesses like our local library, coffeehouse, senior centers, etc, are now offering Coloring parties. Rest assured, no one is carded at the door. People from all walks of life show up to participate. Men and women alike, of all ages, appear to socialize at these parties to relax and enjoy one another’s company. Some arrive with backpacks filled with sharpies, gel pens, colored pencils, crayons, chalk, pastels and lipstick. Well maybe not lipstick, but I decided to sneak that in to see if you were really reading or not. You do not need to be an artist to enjoy a coloring party. You will not be coloring baby animals or nursery rhymes or your ABC’s. Adult coloring is the new rage and everywhere you go people are jumping on the bandwagon. I know I was into it before it became as popular as it is now. I was a closet colorer, so to speak. Now that others partake in this creative outlet, I guess you could say I have come out of the closet to admit I color as well.
When I was at Walmart the other day, I noticed a large display in the back of the store near the crafts section of Adult Coloring Books.
Note: They were not in the toy section or where the kid stuff is located.
Some are abstract designs and shapes, some are animals, there is something for everyone. For Christmas this year, my husband and other family and friends bought me coloring books off my Amazon wish list. I have been various places with hubby where we have to wait and I yank out one of my coloring books and some pencils and the look on his face is priceless. He is thinking, “Sheesh, really?”
Being as I am comfortable in my own skin, I just smile and go about coloring. It often becomes a conversation starter among others in the room.
Some folks enjoy online gaming, others enjoy a game of golf. I have many interests and one is coloring. I also like Dot to Dot books and Maze books. Crayons are great but for some of the designs I work on I like using colored pencils. Colored pencils don’t wear down as quickly as crayons and you can do more intricate work with them.
I wanted to share with you some online websites that you can go to and print off coloring pages to color that are totally free. Enjoy!
