‘Box’ Offering 50GB Free Cloud Storage for iOS Users

Cloud storage service ‘Box’ has announced it’s giving away 50GB of free storage for users who try the new version of its Apple iOS app:

We couldn’t be more excited to announce that today we are releasing our brand new, completely rebuilt Box for iPhone® and iPad® app. And to commemorate this, we are offering 50GB of free storage for life to users who download the app in the next 30 days.

We’ve overhauled our app to make it super-fast, simpler to use and more immersive. The result, we believe, is the best content viewing and collaboration experience available today for your iOS device. We’re incredibly happy to offer this update to the millions of people that have already downloaded Box for iPhone and iPad and everyone else who needs to get work done on the go.

iOS users can view further details and take advantage of this offer by visiting the Box blog page here: Get the all new Box for iPhone and iPad + 50GB free

  1. Sorry to rain on the party Jim, but a friend who recently installed Box sent me the following extract from the Terms and Conditions shown to him at the install stage:

‘License to Box. Customer grants to Box and its contractors an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to access, use, modify, and delete any information, materials, data, files, programs, ideas and opinions provided or made available by Customer (“Customer Content”) through the use of Software for the sole purpose of synchronizing the services made available through the Software with the services made available through the Website.’

    He subsequently uninstalled it.

  2. After reading through their Terms of Service (found on the website, not through actual install) I could only find the following information regarding the use.

    “5. CONTENT

Except for material that we license to you, we don’t claim ownership of any Content that is transmitted, stored, or processed in your account(s). We also don’t control, verify, or endorse the Content that you and others make available on the Service. ….
You hereby grant Box and its contractors the right, to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, distribute, display and disclose Content posted on the Service solely to the extent necessary to provide the Service or as otherwise permitted by these Terms.”

Perhaps the terms change or expand once you install? I may go ahead and try it out just to see.
