Conclusions
As with all system cleaning software, it is important to understand just how powerful these types of programs are. Use with caution; keep track of all the changes you are making. Take baby steps so if something breaks, you will know what to focus on.
I have used WinOptimizer over the years and can say that it’s a top-notch piece of software.

Thanks for the chance to win some nice software!
Whether or not you like the program, the reality is that programs by ashampoo tend to fall under PUP for various legitimate reasons (not the least of which is that these programs are completely unnecessary in the first place; you already have the tools you need in windows by default).
You can add Ashampoo programs to your exclusion lists if you do not want them flagged. But it doesn’t change the fact that it is a PUP by nature!
RIGHT? Just asking.
Hi Brian,
Clean-up software such as WinOptimizer is not necessary. Windows does have a lot of tools that have many of the same features.
The problem with the tools provided by Microsoft is that they do not seem to do a complete job of erasing all the cruft.
It all boils down to how many leftovers you can tolerate. I have a low tolerance for the trash left behind when a program is uninstalled and that is why I use a dedicated uninstaller. Windows doesn’t come close to doing a proper job of it. That is but one example of many.
If you deliberately install a program, it cannot be called a Possibly Unwanted Program (PUP). PUPs are bits of software that lowlife installers try to sneak by you. I’ve never seen Ashampoo stoop to these shady shenanigans.
The decision to use or not use these types of programs is up to the individual.
I hope this helps,
Richard
Each to their own I guess, but…
Anyone who registers can look forward to a concentrated load of spam emails, which will only be stopped after repeated requests via email to support. The checkmarks in the settings apparently have no effect on this. In any case, you should use equivalent freeware.
If I have to use a fake email I am no better than the company in my opinion.
Thanks for the reply. Love DCT!!!
