Ashampoo is preparing to launch a new contender in the competitive commercial anti-virus market with its Ashampoo Anti-Virus 2014, scheduled for official release on 25th September 2013. Now I wouldn’t normally get excited over a new anti-virus product but when such a reputable company is involved, with an established track record for producing quality software, one cannot help but sit up and take notice.

Competition is good, so having another company such as Ashampoo in the AV market is welcomed. For now, I’ll stick with Eset Nod32 on my desktop and Panda Cloud Free AV on my laptop. Those two, plus my use of Sandboxie, have kept my pc healthy for many years.
Agreed.
Eset Nod32 is a terrific product… good choice! So is Sandboxie. You are obviously a discerning user. 🙂
Thanks for your input, appreciated.
Cheers… Jim
Jim I know Ashampoo to have an AV product going back at least 7 or 8 years, and actually ran it on an XP rig for some time.If memory serves,it was a free offering.
Any word on the author of the scanning engines in this program?
Yes Chuck, you are quite correct. From memory, it was called “anti-malware” rather than “anti-virus”.
Unofficial reports are saying that the two engines are Emsisoft and Bitdefender. If that’s the case, they are two excellent engines.
Cheers mate… Jim
Thanks for the info Jim.Did a little digging back into my Ashampoo account (they keep amazing track of your history),and found there were both an AV and AM. Cheers!
I’m using Avast Free Antivirus but I’d like to know if comparing Avast and Ashampoo which would be best for my laptop? But I think Avast has slowed down my laptop a lot. So suggest some lighter and faster AV.
The two engines ARE Emsisoft and Bitdefender. Got the information directly from Ashampoo.
Rebranding emsisoft) The same engines that have emsisoft anti-malware.
Installed trial version of Ashampoo AV 2014 and my Windows 8 went to a crawl. Also unable to whitelist files. For me it was a disaster.
Hey Hugh – Coincidentally, I was called out to client’s machine just yesterday with a very similar issue. He had installed Ashampoo AV and his machine slowed right down. I disabled several unessential startup items and services and it came good. I then went back over those items I had disabled and I’m pretty sure the culprit was a service associated with SuperAntiSpyware free… must have been causing a conflict. Conflicts are certainly not unusual where security related software is concerned.
I’ve installed Ashampoo AV on my own Win8 machine and haven’t experienced any slowdowns or issues to date at all.
What is your machine’s total RAM? Are you certain that the built-in Windows Defender is turned off? Ashampoo AV tuned mine off automatically during install but you never know. Do you have any other security software installed which includes real time protection?
Just a few ideas to bounce around,
Cheers… Jim
